Education 2500I did my first practicum experience in the Holy Spirit school district at Our Lady of Assumption Elementary School. I was placed in a grade 4 homeroom class, and I also taught Physical Education for grades one through four every week. This experience allowed me to get a taste of the classroom experience, as well as solidified my goals of completing the education program at the University of Lethbridge.

PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE 1I did my PS1 at Magrath Elementary Shool. I taught grade 6 Math, Science and Physical Education. This practicum experience lit me up with excitement to be in the classroom, as well as the gymnasium. I loved the atmosphere that Magrath Eementary offered, and I had my first taste of professional development.
Being a part of the school community is so important, and I loved being a part of Magrath Elementary, the students I had the opportunity of teaching were ready for anything, and willing to try, it was a great experience. As well as teaching grade 6 Phsical Eucation, I had the opportunity to teach grades 1 through 5. I did rugby for a week with the entire school. I loved connecting with other classes, it made a big difference in my practicum experience. |

Practicum experience 2I did my second practicum experience in the Holy Spirit district at Catholic Central High School.
At CCH I taught grade 10 Physical Education as well as Soccer Academy, which was grades 10 through 12. CCH offered me the experience to teach full time in the quarter system. Having three hour classes really gave me the opportunity to connect to my students, as well as forced me to be well prepared. I learnt about timing a lesson, as well as working with the class not against it. Working with the soccer academy was an amazing experience, this group of kids were athletic, and up for anything. I got to try a wide range of lessons, games and activities with this group, and I learnt a lot. I coached the Senior girls rugby team at the same time as teaching, which allowed for a very realistic schedule, and experience for me. This pressured me to have good planning and time management throughout my practicum experience. PS 2 was where I figured out what kind of Physical educator I wanted to be. I want students to know about their bodies, to know skills and rules of a multitude of different games. I want students to be active, and I want to show them the various ways they can do that. I want students to know why they should be active, and I want to show them the wide variety of possible activities for them. PS 2 helped me to see how I can help students be turned on to physical activity, to get students active for life. |

practicum experience 3My third and final practicum experience was at Father Leonard Van Tighem school. I was teaching grades 7, 8 and 9 Physical Education, as well as grade 9 Health, and grade 9 Religion.
This experience allowed me to teach both in a physical education and classroom setting. I have also had the opportunity of teaching an all girls Phys. Ed. class, for both grade 8 as well as grade 9. I had the opportunity to coach senior boys volleyball at FLVT, we had a successful season, and I look forward to their season next year. I have also had the opportunity of coaching the grade 7 and 8 girls basketball teams, along side my mentor teacher, Mario Pasquotti. I learnt a lot, and I look forward to next season. I have loved the chance to get to know different sports out side of my comfort zone. I have learned a lot, and continued to grow as a coach, as well as a teacher. I am willing to jump in and learn new skills, I will do whatever I can for my players and my fellow coaches. Father Leonard Van Tighem grew to be my family and my home, I loved pouring myself into the school. I made a lot of lasting relationships with students, parents and especially staff. I would like to thank everyone there for such a great PS 3 experience. |
